Economic, Fiscal, and Social Impacts of the Transition of Electricity Generation Resources in Indiana

Research Areas: Economic Development, Intergovernmental Relations

At the request the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC), researchers prepared this analysis of the local economic, fiscal, and social impacts of the transition of electricity generation from coal to new and emerging technologies. The study focused on the effects of anticipated 2021–2028 closures or partial closures of the Schahfer, Michigan City, Petersburg, and Rockport coal-fired generating plants, and was informed by an extensive review of literature on the transition and closing of power plants in other communities across the United States.
